Case Study 3 - Students/Teenagers Going to university isn’t just about reading books, missing lectures, and passing exams – it’s about making a new home, meeting new people, and taking a step towards being independent. A healthy social life isn’t exactly unimportant either. However, becoming a student is a big lifestyle change, and can be an unsettling time for the young people moving into higher education and the parents who want them to stay safe and happy. The Skyguard 500 service can reassure parents that their sons and daughters will be taken care of while they are busy living student life to the full, and can help the students themselves become more confident in this new environment. Roisin is 19, and in her second year at St. Andrew’s University. She is reading History of Art, but is perhaps more aware of personal safety than her peers through her fundraising work for Women’s Aid. "I’ve been using the Skyguard 500 service at St. Andrews, especially when I’m out in the evening," she says. "Because the college is so small, it’s much easier and more common for students to walk home after a night out than to get a taxi or a bus. In those kinds of situations, the Skyguard can definitely give you peace of mind – even if you know that you probably won’t use it, it’s just good to know that it’s there if you need it."
