The Skyguard 500 Personal Safety Alarm has the following characteristics and functions;




Description

A hand held Personal Safety Alarm, designed to be carried on the person at all times.

 

Features

  • Accurate locating through Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver;
    • Establish own position from information received from GPS satellites
    • Speed and bearing information for use if user is being transported against their will
    • Reports last known position in absence of good GPS fix

  • GSM receiver/transmitter to transmit and receive SMS messages and voice communications over the mobile phone network
    • SMS message to give best chance of alarm being sent if poor signal strength
    • 2-way voice connection
    • GSM Signal Strength test to confirm signal level, perhaps before going into a difficult meeting

  • Alarm buttons to activate an alert to the Skyguard Emergency Response Centre
  • 2-way audio;
    • Microphone to allow a remote listener to hear all voice and ambient noise out to 2 metres from the PSD
    • Loudspeaker to allow the user to hear what remote speaker is saying from up to 1 metre from the PSD
    • Use as mobile telephone; up to 3 pre-programmed numbers
    • Operator password protection
  • Special function buttons - used singly or in conjunction with others;
    • Memo button for recording a message to be left in database for use if required in an emergency situation
    • Location button sends current location message to the Skyguard Emergency Response Centre without alarming; available to Controller in the event of a subsequent alert
    • Timer button sends an SMS message to the Skyguard Emergency Response Centre which starts a timer countdown to alert only if not cancelled before timer expires
    • Button to cancel timer message

  • Unit can be polled for position by controller if requested by police or by employer with employee written agreement

  • Power saving mode implemented when movement sensor indicates unit static

  • LEDs giving information to the user on; power/charging levels, GPS fix/searching, GSM sending status, alert message transmission, signal strength

  • Battery life in excess of 14 hours standby time

  • Battery low indication on unit

  • Battery low indication to controller

  • Unobtrusive to wear; alternative methods of attachment to the person; lanyards and holster

On activation

  • Sends SMS to Emergency Response Centre with position information, (lat/long, satellite time, speed and bearing), and identity.

  • Will continue to send message until acknowledged by Controller.

  • 2-way audio between PSD and Controller to allow Controller to verify alert as an alarm and decide on appropriate response, (in conjunction with previously recorded personal, location, employment and medical details).
